Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana is hopeful he will feature in the Soweto Derby after scoring on debut in the 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.
With coach Steve Komphela battling with a lengthy injury list, the 20-year-old made the most of his opportunity against Downs with a man-of-the-match display and headed goal at Loftus Versfeld.
Chiefs next host Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday, with Ngezana eager to contribute in the marquee fixture.
“I take instructions from the coach,” Ngezana told the club's website.
“It’s all about the coach’s plan for the game and how I will fit in that strategy.
“Although, of course, it would be something very special if I would be able to play a role.”
He added: “It’s great if a coach believes in you.”
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge product admits he struggled to sleep after his showing against the Brazilians.
“We were only at around midnight back at the Chiefs Village. Thereafter, I drove home to Sebokeng in the Vaal.
“My family was still awake when I arrived there and they obviously wanted to hear all about my debut.”
