Thabo Matlaba's second-half strike was not enough to hand Orlando Pirates victory as they drew 1-1 with Platinum Stars at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.
Pirates, who face Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on Saturday, were looking to bounce back after dropping points in their last two league matches against Polokwane City and Bidvest Wits.
But it was not to be for Milutin Sredojevic's men and they now have to pick themselves up for the big one against Amakhosi this weekend.
Bucs' big man upfront Thamsanqa Gabuza had a wonderful opportunity inside the box in the 13th minute, but he went for power from 12 yards and his shot sailed over the bar.
The Buccaneers were waiting to pounce on counter-attacks with Roger de Sa's charges taking the initiative in the opening 20 minutes.
However, Sredojevic's troops came close to scoring again in the 30th minute with Innocent Maela's 30-yard shot that went wide of Dino Visser's goal.
For all their dominance in the first period, Dikwena had nothing to show for it going into the break and they were punished early in the second stanza.
Bucs captain Matlaba grabbed the lead for the Buccaneers a minute into the second half. After receiving a pass, the versatile player turned a Dikwena defender and hit a powerful shot with his left foot, giving Visser no chance.
Pirates' lead lasted only two minutes. Big striker Bonginkosi Ntuli, on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, levelled matters for Dikwena with a fine strike inside the box.
In an effort to restore his side's lead, Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola struck the crossbar from a direct free-kick which was hit from just outside the box on the hour-mark.
Neither side could carve out a clear cut chance in the closing stages and they were forced to settle for a point each.
