Absa Premiership match report Baroka v Golden Arrows 18 October 2017

Posted: 18 October 2017 Time: 17:13

A late Siphelele Magubane equaliser earned Golden Arrows a 1-1 draw with Absa Premiership leaders Baroka FC.

Kgoloko Thobejane's charges remain top of the table, two points ahead of Arrows, who occupy second spot.

The hosts made the best possible start to the clash, when Sipho Moeti gave them a priceless lead after 15 minutes of play. Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede gifted the ball to the onrushing Moeti to fire into an empty net.

Throughout the first half, the majority of the game took place in the centre of the park, with neither goalkeeper being particularly tested before the break.

Thobejane’s charges kept Abafana Bes’thende at bay with the hosts going into the break leading by 1-0.

After the break, the visitors took the game to their opponents as a rejuvenated Arrows did all the running.

Clinton Larsen then made a double change when Yussuf Jappie and Jabulani Shongwe were introduced to replace Musa Bilankulu and Wayde Jooste.

With the visitors team pressing for an equaliser, their persistence paid dividends 15 minutes from the final whistle. Shongwe was at the heart of the attack, and his telling pass found an unmarked Magubane in the penalty area, who found the back of the net from close range.

Both sides pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages, but 1-1 was how the score remained at the full-time whistle.
