Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has dedicated the win over Mamelodi Sundowns to club chairman Kaizer Motaung.
Chiefs beat Sundowns 2-1 in Tshwane on Tuesday to raise morale for Saturday's Soweto Derby with arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.
Motaung turned 73 yesterday and Komphela felt the victory was a fitting birthday present for ‘Chincha Guluva’.
“Thought it was a nice match, both teams in my opinion applied themselves very well,” said Komphela.
“It was very nice for both sets of supporters to watch such a game. From our side it was a nice birthday present for the chairman. You can say that having given a good three points with the result.”
Komphela felt his side had ample chances to inflate the scoreline at Loftus Versfeld.
“First half I thought we should gone to the dressing room, with respect to Sundowns, maybe one or two-nil up. There were about six chances where we could have taken at least two.”
The former Maritzburg United mentor is looking forward to mixing it up with Pirates on the weekend.
“But we are delighted with the 2-1 victory and three points. It's just a pity we conceded. We are looking forward to the next match.”
