Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo is determined to break their winless run in the Free State as they prepare to take on Free State Stars tonight.
The Urban Warriors have failed on 14 previous attempts to take three points from Ea Lla Koto in their own backyard, a statistic their head coach is desperate to change.
“For me history doesn’t count,” Menzo said. “It’s a challenge – yes we struggle, but let’s go for the three points and show that history does not mean the next result will be the same. There will also be a time that you will win there, and let it be now. Just because we struggle there does not mean we will always struggle, I don’t believe in that.”
Menzo knows the players’ mindset has to change, urging them not to focus too much on the past.
“We historically struggle there, but if that’s in the team’s mind, then we don’t have to go there,” he said. “If that’s in the players’ minds, that’s not good. So let’s change that history, and go try to win there.”
Ajax travel to the Free State without the services of injured duo Tercious Malepe and Morne Nel but are free of suspensions.
They currently occupy 13th spot in the Absa Premiership standings, two points and two places below Stars.
