How SuperSport have caught up to Big Three of Sundowns, Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 16 October 2017 Time: 11:00

In the last 10 years, SuperSport United have proven to be right up there with the 'Big Three' of South African football – Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Their MTN8 title was just another trophy on their list of accolades, as they beat Cape Town City 4-2 on penalties at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the final on Saturday.

It took their tally of trophies in the past decade to eight. They have won more domestic trophies than Tshwane rivals Sundowns and Soweto giants Pirates, while they are level with Chiefs on eight.

Matsatsantsa showed that they should be considered a big gun in South African football when they won three consecutive league titles under coach Gavin Hunt. They have not won a league title since 2009/2010, but they’ve done well in the knockout competitions.

Here KickOff.com looks at how SuperSport have caught up with the Big Three of PSL football.
