Khama Billiat is hoping Percy Tau, Themba Zwane and Sibusiso Vilakazi can inspire Mamelodi Sundowns to victory

Khama Billiat is hoping teammates Percy Tau, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Themba Zwane will continue where they left off for Bafana Bafana recently when Mamelodi Sundowns take on Kaizer Chiefs.

The trio were on the scoresheet when Bafana beat Burkina Faso 3-1 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium on Saturday, showing just how much CAF Champions League football has played a role in their growth as players.

Sundowns will be looking to take advantage of Amakhosi's struggles at the back with their many quality players in attack.

“I am not surprised [that Tau, Vilakazi and Zwane are doing well]. They are good players and there’s something special in them. It’s an honour playing with them. I know that their top form is going to help the team and take the team to another level. It will make us better. We would like to be dangerous,” he said.

Billiat says previous results and current form does not count when Sundowns face Chiefs next Tuesday because both sides are determined to get a positive win.

“It’s not going to be [about] how you played the last game when it comes to Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns. What you do on the day is very important.

“It’s very important for us [to win] to boost the confidence going forward because we are going to have a hectic schedule. We are playing a lot of games in a short period of time, so we need confidence. It’s going to be one of the best games because it’s always like that,” said the Zimbabwean attacker, who scored the winner in Sundowns’ 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars before the FIFA break.

Sundowns will be watching videos of Chiefs to prepare for the Absa Premiership encounter, as Billiat stressed the importance of not underestimating Steve Komphela’s side.

“Chiefs is a good team. With all the respect we have to work very hard, we have to watch the videos and we have to watch how they have been doing, no matter how things are on their side.

"Also on our side things are not the way we want. We want to actually be where we used to be and we need to get our confidence back and do better from all the games we have played so far.

“It’s going to be tough for both teams. You know there’s always going to be goals. The best team will win.”
