City are vying for a second cup crown in just their second year of existence, as they face off against SuperSport United in Saturday’s top eight final showdown at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

And following their Telkom Knockout victory last season, combined with a third-place league finish, captain Johannes knows his side have quickly changed the public’s opinion of them as they look to continue rewriting the club’s history books.

“We are now labelled as a big club - we’re not a small club anymore,” he says. “When we all joined the club, we knew could create our own history, and this is part of it – two finals in two years. But it means nothing if we don’t win it, so we have to go all the way.”

Johannes feels having already been through a final with the majority of the current squad has helped in preparing for this weekend’s encounter.

“We have to be cool and calm before the storm – it’s going to be a big game for sure, and hopefully the stadium will be packed,” he says. “But we’ve got players who have been to occasions like these and I’m sure they’ll handle the pressure and make sure we focus on ourselves and play to our strengths and complete the job.”

Added to the Telkom Knockout-winning team this season has been the likes of Teko Modise, Ayanda Patosi and Victor Obinna, players who Johannes believes have boosted their ranks tremendously with their experience, which he hopes will come to the fore on Saturday.

“We have experienced players in the squad – that’s a big plus for us,” he said. “We’ve got players who have been around for a while, so that will help us. You need big personalities in games like these, so we have to go with the right attitude and make sure we go all the way.”

Kick-off in Durban on Saturday is scheduled for 19h00.
