Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande believes the club can complete a league and cup double this season despite their unconvincing start to the campaign.

Katsande helped Chiefs win the Premiership crown in 2013 and 2015, as well as the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 under current Bafana Bafana mentor Stuart Baxter.

Steve Komphela's side, however, are yet to assert themselves as title contenders this campaign, as they trail surprise log leaders Baroka by six points after seven games.

Katsande admits he is concerned by the situation but he backs the side to match the expectations of the club's fans, who are hurting after two previous years without silverware.

"I need to win the league for my team and a cup. I think that will make me happy," said Katsande.

"I think, by doing that, I'll have a wonderful off-season. Obviously it has been painful for the club because they used to be known for winning.

"We are worried about our situation but everything happens for a reason and this is the time for us to turn the corner.

"I still believe we have the quality in the squad so that we can bring a smile to the fans' faces."

The Zimbabwean recently hit the milestone of 200 games for the Glamour Boys, having arrived at Naturena from Ajax Cape in 2011.

Katsande stressed his desire to go down as a Chiefs legend.

"Obviously I want to be remembered as a legend of this club, so I'll give my best," he said.

"This is hunger and you must never be satisfied. Never be comfortable, don't be familiar with the territory you are in, just wake up like a young kid that needs to achieve something. So you need to stay hungry.

"Where I come from back home in Zimbabwe they know that I earn a living out of football. So I just need to be positive every time I play. I just need to give my best."
