Bay likely to drop

Bay United failed to clinch the win they so desperately needed as they played to a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at the EPRU Stadium on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership clash.
Bottom-of-the-log Bay now require a small miracle if they are to survive the drop from the PSL to the first division.
That miracle should have kick off with a win against AmaZulu. But it was no easy task considering that Umlilo have been struggling to find goals and Usuthu have only conceded one in six games.
United started the game brightly and looked determined to get maximum points from the game, but they struggled to break down the AmaZulu defence and were forced to shoot from long-range in the first 45 minutes with little success.
Instead, Usuthu were the more threatening of the two sides in the first half and kept the United keeper Arthur Bartman very busy.
AmaZulu’s first chance fell to Pere Ariweriyai in the 12th minute when he let fly with a powerful low shot from 20 yards out. Bartman was up to the challenge as he produced a glorious save, diving to his right to tip the ball around the post for a corner kick.
From the same corner, Usuthu’s in-form striker Bradley Ritson nearly put his side in front when his six-yard header was cleared off the goal-line by an Umlilo defender.
Bartman was at the forefront of the action again in the 18th minute when he was quickly out of his goal to deny Sthembiso Dlamini a one-on-one opportunity.
The closest Umlilo came to finding the back of the net came in the 36th minute when Maphelo Galada found himself with only the keeper to beat, but he spooned his shot horribly wide.
The second half started with a bang as Umlilo took the lead in the 49th minute.
Patrick Mayo rose high above the Usuthu defence to head home an in-swinging right-hand cross from six yards out, 1-0.
But in the 71st minute when Ntokozo Sikhakhane found an equaliser for AmaZulu. Sikhakhane latched onto a beautiful through-ball and found himself with only the keeper to beat. The Usuthu midfielder showed his composure as he picked his spot and placed the ball beyond the diving United keeper, 1-1.
The game ended in a draw and the result all but confirms Bay United’s exit from the PSL.
