Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele plans to give Oscarine Masuluke a good send off to London

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele expressed a great deal of excitement following the news that goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke has been nominated for the Puskas Award.

Mphahlele had, in fact, not received the news when KickOff.com gave him a call just minutes after Masuluke's top three nomination had been confirmed.

The chairman said he would organise a small celebration to send off the goalkeeper whose bicycle kick against Orlando Pirates at Peter Mokaba Stadium last season went viral on social media.

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Venezuelan national women’s team player Deyna Castellanos have been nominated for the award and the winner will be announced on October 23 in London.

“Wow that’s good news. That’s what we have been waiting for. No, I was not aware because I am in the office. Obviously we are going to have a small celebration because we don’t want to lose focus. We will have the celebration with players, office staff and management. We will give him a good send off because we are proud of him,” Mphahlele tells KickOff.com.

Mphahlele says Masuluke’s goal has given Baroka good exposure and they need to take advantage of this, so that they build their brand. It’s no doubt one of Baroka’s proudest moments in their history.

“It’s great for everybody who is associated with Baroka. We are happy that he will go to London. Even if he does not win, at least we see that something is happening, but we would be so happy for him to win. I am excited.

“This tells me that the whole world will be looking at all those who are nominated and one of those people is from Baroka. I don’t have enough words to express how happy we are as a club. How many teams in South African have achieved this? So it’s good for us. We are only two years in the PSL and our name will be known abroad.”
