Bayern Munich have announced the appointment of Jupp Heynckes as caretaker coach

Posted: 6 October 2017 Time: 15:47

Jupp Heynckes has been officially confirmed as the new Bayern Munich head coach until the end of the season.

The 72-year-old comes out of retirement to take over from Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked last week after a poor start to the season culminated in the 3-0 UEFA Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

And Heynckes will now take charge of the Bavarian giants for a fourth time, two of which now have been in a caretaker capacity.

“It isn’t a comeback but a duty of friendship,” Heynckes has said to German magazine Kicker.

“I’ve only done it because I a owe lot to Bayern.

“I have a great feeling and we can get going immediately.”
