France striker Alexandre Lacazette is confident the team have what it takes to challenge for the World Cup trophy but is first focused on securing their spot.

Les Bleus currently top Group A but sit just one point clear of runners-up Sweden with two qualifying matches remaining.

The penultimate fixture comes away to Bulgaria on Saturday before they wrap up the group at home against Belarus on Tuesday, and while Arsenal striker Lacazette is confident in the national team’s abilities, he is not getting too far ahead of himself.

“We have to qualify first before we start talking about Russia,” Lacazette said. “I hope I will have a role in the team.

“For now I'm in the squad and I just hope to be one of those selected to play in a match and go as far as I can.

“We have a lot of young talented players as well as a group of very established players. That's a great combination that could help us to go a long way in Russia.

“I know that playing well at Arsenal improves my chances with the French team and vice versa. If I play well for the French team, then the boss is pleased so it's a win-win situation.”
