Sibusiso Khumalo hopes his injury woes are behind him as he looks to regain the favour of Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela.

Khumalo, who joined Chiefs at the beginning of last season from SuperSport United, damaged his knee while on Bafana Bafana duty in the CHAN qualifiers in August and is yet to play this campaign.

A fit Khumalo is a lively presence down the left flank, having managed 16 appearances in all competitions in 2016/17 with the Glamour Boys before losing his place in the side to Tsepo Masilela.

While Masilela now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Amakhosi newcomer Philani Zulu has been getting the nod ahead of Khumalo, who has confirmed he is back in contention.

"Now I'm okay and I'm training with the team. I was out for three weeks as I had a strain in my knee," said Khumalo.

"Sadly injuries have pulled me back in my career and it hurts me. In football everyone suffers injuries but for me I have suffered so much injuries. But at least the injury I had was not that serious as I was out for three weeks, but now I'm back with team."

Khumalo insists he is up to the challenge for game-time posed by Zulu's recent arrival from Maritzburg United.

"In football you don't have to always feel comfortable and it is about taking a risk," he added.

"I also took the risk of coming here because I was then competing with someone [Masilela] who has earned the experience of playing abroad and here.

"Zulu is coming from Maritzburg and he is enjoying the game-time but the issue I had was the injury. I was supposed to get my chance and use it to my benefit. Sadly I got this knock but now I'm up for the challenge.

"Also Tsepo is out for three months so what I need to do is pull my socks up and when I get a chance I have to ensure that I grab it with both hands."
