Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are unlikely to go head-to-head in a legal battle for Zambian striker Justin Shonga.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane recently revealed that Shonga had signed a contract with them, but the Zambian has since made his debut for the Buccaneers in a 2-2 draw with Polokwane City, not long after he was announced as a new Pirates player by chairman Irvin Khoza.
Shonga, who played in a friendly international against Bafana Bafana at Moruleng Stadium in June, has allegedly signed two contracts, but KickOff.com has been informed that the clubs will look to settle the matter behind closed doors.
The 20-year-old forward is said to have signed a three-year contract with Sundowns, with an option to extend for two years.
Despite the striker’s move to join the Buccaneers, Sundowns are not going to make a big deal of it in the media. They have chosen to remain calm about the matter.
Club spokesperson Thulani Thuswa did not want to go deep into the issue, but did say they are handling it.
“At this stage we can’t say much about the matter. We are dealing with it as a club,” he said.
