Pirates legend Innocent 'Ayobayo' Mayoyo impressed with Wayne Sandilands and Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune

Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Innocent 'Ayobayo' Mayoyo feels Kaizer Chiefs are much more dangerous when Itumeleng Khune is in goal.

Khune has shone since returning from illness for Amakhosi last month, picking up a string of man-of-the-match awards.

The 30-year-old is expected to captain Bafana Bafana in their 2018 World Cup qualifier with Burkina Faso at FNB Stadium on Saturday provided he shakes off a shoulder injury.

Mayoyo, a Bucs legend who starred in the late 1980s and early 1990s, believes a keeper should set the tone for a team.

"Remember that a goalkeeper has got to determine the style of play of the team," he told

"Specifically you can see most of the time because of Khune, Chiefs is not one dimensional: they can play starting from the back, they can play going behind the opponent, they can use wing play. I think a goalkeeper has to have all those dimensional skills."

The Ayobayo Football Academy boss is also impressed with new Pirates shot-stopper Wayne Sandilands and believes the 34-year-old has plenty of football left in him.

"Take me for instance, you'll never even believe that I still train with my Academy boys as their goalkeeper but I'm 51, and I don't see any goalkeeper stopping if he is very serious about his career. He can still go beyond five [years]. We saw that with Andre [Arendse] coming back from coaching at Wits.

"As long as he trains well and look after himself I think he still has got time, especially if there's going to be continuity, not chopping and changing - goalkeeper needs to be stable."
