Ezikamagebhula have been struggling in the goalkeeping department in recent years with no less than four keepers failing to make the position their own.

But Mayoyo, who was a crowd favourite during his time as the club's number one in the late 1980s and early 1990s, believes those days are gone in Orlando.

"To be honest now I think we've got a good goalkeeper. His [Sandilands] record speaks for itself, he is a good goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates," Mayoyo tells KickOff.com.

He adds: "Sandilands is a dedicated keeper. He takes his job very serious for the fact that he is a hungry boy and he's been longing to prove himself. And what I like about him he is a very hard working boy, he is a true professional."

Sandilands has received much praise for the fourth-placed Buccaneers only conceding four goals in seven games since his off-season arrival from Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, Mayoyo feels it would be wrong to forget the contribution of his teammates and new coach Milutin Sredojevic towards Pirates' resurgence.

"Not him [Sandilands] per se, but understand for part of the last time Pirates at least has changed personnel. We are playing much fresher personnel, people who have never been in the team, boys who want to establish themselves in the team. And the coach, you can see that there is something coming.

"But presently who is our goalkeeper coach? So it would be difficult to judge if we don't know him. As for me, I still believe for a [goalkeeper coach] you need to get somebody who is cultural, who knows what is that thing, what is that style, what is that team and what does that team represent."
