Kgoloko Thobejane backs Baroka for Premiership honours after defeating Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 2 October 2017 Time: 11:45

Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane is confident his team can defend their spot at the Premiership summit.

Bakgaga rose to the top of the standings with a 2-1 win over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Thobejane has revived claims the club can win the league, having made the same ambitious comments last term only for the side to barely survive relegation via the Play-offs.

However, the 2015/16 NFD champions bolstered their playing personnel and technical team in the off-season and have been rewarded with a seven-game unbeaten run.

"Maintaining, it's about what you have and I'm quite sure with what we have we can maintain the position," said Thobejani.

"As long as our language, most importantly, is that we are talking about attacking and less about defending, then we can maintain the position.

"Creating 10 chances and scoring one goal, it's [not] good and to maintain the position you've got to score. Going to the game without scoring and people missing chances, then we can't maintain it.

"But only when we score, it's always the name of the game. We want to maintain it from Saturday until the end of the season."

Thobejane's men next entertain second-placed Golden Arrows at Peter Mokaba Stadium on October 18.
