Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic says Thamsanqa Gabuza’s brace was the perfect response to the boo-boys.
Gabuza struck twice to salvage a point for Bucs in a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Sredojevic is impressed with how the bustling forward delivered on Saturday despite often enduring criticism from the stands.
The 30-year-old has had to shoulder more responsibility upfront following the recent departure of Zimbabwean hitman Tendai Ndoro to Saudi outfit Al Faisaly FC.
“He has a heart of a lion. It is not easy to carry this jersey, this is 80 years of history and millions of supporters,” Sredojevic said of Gabuza, who has netted three times this season.
“For whatever [reason] he has missed in the past, he has repaid back with two goals he has scored. Last season he scored two goals the entire campaign. Now he has three goals.”
Sredojevic also appealed for Pirates supporters to show patience with Gabuza.
“I want to find the mechanism together with all of us, club management, technical team and also the players. So I also appeal for patience from the supporters so that we can give him the confidence and he will repay back that because he wants to deliver and he wants to do the best.”
Bucs, in fourth place on the table with 12 points from seven games, will revive their league campaign after the FIFA break against struggling Platinum Stars at Orlando Stadium on October 18.
