Real Madrid moved up to fifth in La Liga after claiming a 2-0 win over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening.
Los Blancos were without the services of Marcelo, Dani Carvajal and Theo Hernandez for the encounter.
Zinedine Zidane's charges dominated for most of the opening exchanges but were finding it tough to create chances in the final third.
Real's pressure eventually paid off on 30 minutes when Isco broke the deadlock with a close-range finish, after being played in by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo then went close to adding his name to the score-sheet three minutes later, but Pau Lopez produced a good save to deny Portuguese.
The visitors went agonisingly close to leveling matters just before the break when Gerard Moreno struck the woodwork.
The second half started at a slow pace, as neither side looked threatening in the opening 15 minutes.
The Catalan outfit opted for a change on 69 minutes as former Real midfielder Granero replaced Sanchez as they pushed for an equaliser.
Zidane's charges managed to double their advantage in the 71st minute when Isco collected a pass from Marco Asensio before firing into the bottom corner with a fine finish.
The hosts introduced Dani Ceballos for Luka Modric in the 83rd minute as they looked to see out the closing stages with ease.
Real failed to add to their advantage in the latter stages as the clash ended 2-0 in favour of the reigning champions.
