Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has called up Motjeka Madisha as a replacement for defender Erick Mathoho, who has expressed remorse for his sending off and subsequent suspension.
Mathoho has had a two-game ban upheld by FIFA's Disciplinary Committee following his dismissal in a 2018 World Cup qualifier with Cape Verde on September 1.
Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back Madisha has been roped in ahead of the must-win World Cup qualifier with Burkina Faso on Saturday at FNB Stadium (15h00).
“Words fail me when I think of the incident and the red card itself, but from the bottom of my heart I want to once again apologise for my actions – to the entire Bafana Bafana team and all the football loving fans,” said Mathoho, who was also fined around R70 000 for 'unsporting conduct'.
“Let me also take this opportunity to wish the team all the best against Burkina Faso in this crucial match. I know it’s not going to be easy but I have confidence that they will get positive results. We did not do well in the last two matches but I believe we will rise again, starting with this upcoming clash. Good luck to all,” concluded the Kaizer Chiefs man.
Baxter's side are bottom of Group D with a point from three games - four points behind Senegal and five shy of Cape Verde and the Burkinabe.
