The game got off to a lively start with Alvaro Morata going close with a header, before De Bruyne forced Thibaut Courtois into a save inside the opening five minutes.

The Blues carved out another chance in the 26th minute, but Ederson was on hand to keep out Cesar Azpilicueta's low shot.

The Blues were dealt a blow after 35 minutes when top scorer Alvaro Morata was forced off with an injury. Chelsea's record signing was replaced by Willian.

City nearly went ahead just before the halftime break, but Courtois produced a fine save to keep out Fernandinho's header.

The Citizens squandered a good chance to take the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Raheem Sterling volleyed over from close range.

City's pressure paid off as they took the lead in the 67th minute with a superb long range effort from Kevin De Bruyne.

Antonio Conte repsonded by introducing Pedro and Michy Batshuayi for Eden Hazard and Bakayoko.

The Blues pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but they were unable to bypass a resolute City defence and have now suffered their second defeat on home soil this season.
