Antoine Griezmann accepts blame after Atletico Madrid's Champions League loss to Chelsea

Posted: 28 September 2017 Time: 12:36

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann says he feels responsible following Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League defeat at home against Chelsea.

The Spain international scored the first-ever European Cup goal at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico’s new home ground, after firing home from the penalty spot after 40 minutes.

However, Chelsea rallied after the break as Alvaro Morata grabbed the equaliser before Michy Batshuayi scored the winner with virtually the last kick of the game, and Griezmann feels his own performance let down the team and their supporters.

“They [Chelsea] were the better team in every aspect,” said Griezmann.

“There is nothing else to say. We must try and win all our games now.

“In the first half, they were on top of us, and in the second half, they were better [too].

“Maybe we lacked a better game from me.”

The result left Atletico third in Group C with just one point from their opening two European Cup fixtures.
