Ajax Cape Town captain Mosa Lebusa is determined to get one over cross-town rivals Cape Town City in the first Cape derby of the season.
The Urban Warriors are yet to taste victory over their city counterparts, having lost both derbies in 2016/17: a Bongolethu Jayiya goal separated the two sides in September last year, before Aubrey Ngoma’s first-half strike and an Erwin Isaacs own goal in February handed the Citizens a 2-0 win.
Lebusa acknowledged that City were the better side last term, yet insists the number of changes in the Ajax set-up could bode well for the red half of Cape Town come Saturday afternoon.
“There’s no doubt that City had a good season last year,” he said. “This season we have new players, hungry players, and we want those bragging rights. The city will be divided into two colours, and I think it’s important for us to try win the game. Last season they won both games and were a great side, but this season it’s different.”
The Urban Warriors skipper urges Capetonians will fill up Cape Town Stadium as he hopes his side – currently sitting 12th on the log – will emerge victorious.
“It’s going to be an interesting game,” he said. “Both teams are going to go at each other, and I urge the Ajax fans to come and support us, and hopefully we’ll get the three points.”
Kick-off is set for 15h00.
