Siyabonga Mbatha believes AmaZulu can achieve "something special" this season as they focus on refining their game during an extended break for Cavin Johnson's charges.
The Premiership returnees were meant to visit SuperSport United on Saturday, but the fixture was postoponed as Matsatsantsa will instead host Tunisia's Club Africain of Tunisia in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Usuthu, in mid-table with eight points from six games, will only be in action again when they entertain Polokwane City on October 18 following the FIFA international break.
Goalkeeper Mbatha, who started the previous two matches, is confident the Durban-based outfit will make their mark in 2017/18.
“We have a strong team and I honestly think that we can achieve something special this season,” Mbatha told his club's website.
“We have the quality to challenge for a top-eight finish in the league and in football anything is possible.
“So, I believe that a top-eight finish is achievable for us this season. We just need to fight as a team and be consistent.”
The 28-year-old added: “There’s also the Telkom Knockout Cup which is coming up very soon. A chance to win some silverware. A good cup run could take us to the final. It would be great to have some cup success too this season.”
