Spanish La Liga match report Girona v FC Barcelona 23 September 2017

FC Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win over Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi.

Paulinho was handed his first start in La Liga, following his heroics last weekend, while Aleix Vidal started in the Barca attack.

The visitors looked threatening from the onset, although Girona did create a couple chances after 10 minutes with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen making the stops.

Barca eventually took the lead in the 17th minute when Jordi Alba's long-range strike hit Girona's Aday and sailed into the net for the own goal.

The Catalan giants continued to dominate and they went close to getting a second goal after 38 minutes but Paulinho headed wide from close range.

The visitors continued to dominate but the score remained 1-0 as the sides entered the halftime break.

Barca doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half as Vidal's flick found Suarez, whose shot was deflected into the net by Iraizoz.

Ernesto Valverde opted for a change in the 67th minute as Paulinho made way for Sergio Busquets.

Suarez eventually got his name on the score-sheet in the 69th minute as the Uruguayan latched onto a pass from Sergi Roberto before calmly firing past Gorka.

Ernesto Valverde introduced Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez for the final 10 minutes, as the visitors saw out the remaining stages with relative ease.

The Catalan giants will now shift their focus to UEFA Champions League action on Tuesday evening.
