Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands has downplayed Bidvest Wits’ current form and says they will have to be at their best to beat the champions.
Pirates visit the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening (18h00) for a mouthwatering clash against the defending Absa Premiership champions.
Despite their winless run in eight games this season, Sandilands believes Wits remain a dangerous opponent and urges his teammates to be at their “absolute best” to continue their own undefeated run.
“I think that [Wits' form] is irrelevant to us, we know that we are playing against a high-quality team with good quality players within their team,” Sandilands tells KickOff.com.
“They are dangerous right now, especially with the circumstances they are currently in.
“We are under no illusion that it will be a war, and we know we have to be at our absolute best if we want to come out with a result."
The Buccaneers have not beaten the Clever Boys in their last six meetings but the Soweto side will be looking to change that record under new coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic.
The Bafana Bafana gloveman insists they will go into the tie with a positive mindset, but stresses the result will sort itself out if each player just sticks to their game plan.
“I think for us, our focus is trying to get the best out of every game possible so we’ll have to see how the game pans out,” he says.
“But we’ve just got a positive mindset of going and giving the best account of ourselves, and the processes handle themselves.
“It’s just a matter of sticking to the game plan and just executing what we as individuals and as a team have to do, and the result will take care of ourselves.
“Again, we are under no illusion, it’s going to be a war and we’re going to have to be up for it.”
