Moloi: Chippa spirits up for SSU clash

Chippa United caretaker coach Teboho Moloi says he inherited a team low in confidence but feels they are in a better place now for tonight's clash with SuperSport United.

Moloi started his reign at Chippa - after he replaced the sacked Dan Malesela last week - with a goalless stalemate against Roger de Sa's bottom-placed Platinum Stars outfit in Phokeng on Saturday.

The Chilli Boys next visit Eric Tinkler's SuperSport charges at Lucas Moripe Stadium (19h30), with Moloi determined to come away with all the spoils.

“When I got there the guys were down in confidence. They didn’t know what to expect and it was better when they realised that I was the one coming to work with them,” Moloi tells

“The only thing I had to do was to try to lift up their confidence. They were struggling but with the point against Platinum Stars I assured them that when you play away from home it's important to grab a point. And when you play at home you get three points, and with that everything will get back to normal.”

Moloi, who previously worked with De Sa and Tinkler at Orlando Pirates, has labelled his first two assignments a baptism of fire.

He adds: “It's a baptism of fire. It was Roger and now it's Tinkler. But I just hope we can get maximum points. We can't go home empty handed. All the time I am preaching to the boys that they should understand when you play at home you always have a point at hand.

“To get maximum points away from home is difficult. But with a little bit of effort and a little bit of concentration we can get it. I just hope SuperSport play the same team that they played against Platinum during the week, then we can fancy our chances.”

Chippa are 11th on the Premiership standings with four points from as many matches - two points shy of sixth-placed Matsatsantsa.
