Former Sutton United shot-stopper regrets eating a pie on the bench against Arsenal

Former Sutton United goalkeeper Wayne Shaw admits he regrets his decision to eat a pie in the dugout during their FA Cup defeat to Arsenal in February.

The shotstopper was an unused substitute at Gander Green Lane earlier this year, where the Gunners won 2-0, and was filmed on live television eating a pie after United had brought on their last change.

This, after a bookmaker had offered odds of 8/1 that Shaw would eat a pie during the game, raising suspicions of fraud.

The Football Association took a stern view of the incident and was last week banned from football for two months and fined £375 for two breaches of FA betting rules.

And Shaw admits his actions were in bad taste, telling Sky Sports: "It's difficult to admit (wrongdoing). It was one of those occasions and I got swept away with it all.

“I do have regrets and it was a bit of naivety."

He added: "I didn't realise it would cost me my job, my livelihood and bring embarrassment."
