Casemiro has leaped to the defence of Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale

Real Madrid defender Casemiro has defended team-mate Gareth Bale after the Welshman fell victim to boos during Wednesday’s Champions League win over Apoel Nicosia.

The Wales international has found himself on the receiving end of jeers from a section of the Galacticos fans and things were no different in midweek, despite him helping Madrid to a 3-0 win over their Group H opponents.

Even Los Blancos superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has endured boos from the club’s supporters, but Casemiro hopes it all soon comes to an end.

"He [Bale] was a very strong player for us and I hope he continues to be so," he told Marca.

"With the quality he has, things will be going well for him one day. You can see that Bale is working. He wants to score goals and he's fighting to always help Real Madrid."

He added: "We try to protect the players we have, we are always defending our own.

"It shows that we are a family. I defend my team-mates as if they were my family and I am with them until the end."
