Cardoso: I’ll prove myself

Daniel Cardoso wants to establish himself in the Kaizer Chiefs starting line-up because it’s not nice to be a back-up player.
Cardoso is the player Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela usually calls on when there are injuries or suspensions at the back, but the former Free State Stars central defender is hoping that he can cement his place in the team with the latest opportunity he has in the starting line-up.
Cardoso came in for the suspended Mulomowandau Mathoho in the 2-0 victory over Cape Town City on Wednesday and he has another chance to convince Komphela he is worthy of a regular starting berth when the Soweto giants take on Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium today (18h00).
“It’s not always nice being a back-up player, coming from Free State Stars where I was a regular,” he said.
"Obviously I want to play regularly, but there’s good competition here, with Mathoho, [Lorenzo] Gordinho and Teenage [Hadebe] still has to come back [from injury]. It’s healthy competition, but I’ll prove myself and I’ll get there. Hopefully this is the chance to stay in the 11-man squad.”
Cardoso says they need to have the right attitude when they face struggling Wits today. The Clever Boys are still without a victory this season and would no doubt love to get going with a win over Chiefs.
“It’s going to be a great game. Wits are wounded, they have been struggling and so have we. We must not think that one win is going to win us the championship. We have to keep going," said Cardoso.
"I think it’s going to be a great game and we will come away with a win if we keep our attitude and we keep the positiveness.”
