Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande wants the club to build on Cape Town City win

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has stressed the importance of being consistent after Amakhosi registered their first win of the season against Cape Town City on Wednesday.

Amakhosi host Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium on Saturday (18h00), eager to continue where they left off in the Mother City on Wednesday, when they beat City 2-0 at Cape Town Stadium.

"You need to be consistent. We just wanted a first win, so we just need to build around that win going forward because you can’t be comfortable to win one game and then lose the next one.

"Our next focus is Wits and we are playing at home, so we need to grind maximum points. Obviously it’s going to be difficult, they are the champions and they do have quality. They have invested a lot and they have a solid team, so it’s going to be a tough one. But it’s going to be tough for us and tough for them. We are going to try everything in power to get maximum points."

Katsande made his 200th appearance for Amakhosi against City. It was a special moment for him because, when he joined the club in 2011, the supporters of the club were not quite convinced he was a player they needed.

Six years later, Katsande is well on his way to becoming a club legend.

"When you are a kid at home we used to watch these games on TV. Back then we used to get KICK OFF magazines to see the pictures. We knew that Kaizer Chiefs is a big team," Katsande said.

"Coming here was not easy because it was not something everybody was expecting because I was not playing regularly for my previous club [Ajax Cape Town]. So I really want to thank Bobby [Motaung] for showing faith and confidence in my ability. The fans did not know about me when I joined until I proved my worth."

He continued: "Before I retire, I need to win as many trophies as possible, so that I achieve my wishes to be a legend here. I have to stay hungry. Every game is like a cup final because I need to provide for my family."
