Fadlu Davids has confirmed centre-back Bevan Fransman will miss tonight's league game against Orlando Pirates as the Maritzburg United coach prepares to ring the changes at Harry Gwala Stadium.
The former Kaizer Chiefs man sustained an injury in the 1-1 draw with AmaZulu on Tuesday, getting replaced in the 76th minute by Sheldon van Wyk at Umlazi's King Zwelithini Stadium.
With Kenyan defender Brian Onyango also sidelined with a hamstring problem sustained on international duty, Davids - who has been employing a three-man defensive line - will lean heavily on captain Denis Weidlich and marquee recruit Siyanda Xulu at the back.
"He [Fransman] is probably out for today's game and definitely won't be available," Davids says.
"Onyango is still not back yet and he's still recovering from an injury with the national team."
Meanwhile, Davids believes United can maintain their high pressing game if he freshens up the team, which focused on conditioning in pre-season at a high performance centre in Potchefstroom.
The Team of Choice, who share the Premiership summit with Pirates on seven points from three games, are set to play their third game in nine days following a 2-0 loss to SuperSport United in the MTN8 semi-finals and the stalemate with neighbours Usuthu.
"We can maintain it if I make eight, nine changes against Pirates and we'll definitely be able to maintain it," he adds.
Davids is minus suspended Cameroon midfielder Yazid Atouba and team doctor Burger van der Merwe through suspension, but youngster Mondli Dlamini is back after breaking a fibula in the off-season.
