Kaizer Chiefs registered their first win of the season, as goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala and teenage debutant Wiseman Meyiwa secured a 2-0 victory at Cape Town City.
There was a good tempo to the encounter with both sides signalling their intent to play attacking football at Cape Town Stadium.
The home side, who won their previous five games in all competitions, were then dealt a blow after 17 minutes when playmaker Teko Modise was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Sibusiso Masina.
After a quiet spell of no goal-mouth action, Chiefs went agonisingly close in the 34th minute as debutant Bhongolwethu Jayiya rattled the upright from close range.
City, meanwhile, showed glimpses of their attacking prowess in the first half, but they were let down by their decision making.
That proved to be the trend for the rest of the first half, as the sides went into break goalless.
Chiefs broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half, as Tshabalala showed great composure to fire into the bottom corner from 12 yards out.
Itumeleng Khune then came to Chiefs' rescue in the 57th minute as he produced a fine save to deny Masina from close range.
City continued to attack but they were finding it tough to bypass Khune, who produced a double save to deny Lehohonolo Majoro twice on 67 minutes.
Citizens coach Benni McCarthy opted to introduce Judas Moseamedi for the final 20 minutes with the striker replacing Lyle Lakay.
However, Chiefs sealed the win in the 81st minute as 17-year-old Meyiwa broke into the box and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
