Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu claims Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta have signed new deals

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed Lionel Messi has already penned his new four-year contract, while Andres Iniesta has also agreed an extension.

Talk of Messi’s future at the Catalan giants has been the subject of much debate, especially after the €222m exit of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in the recently-concluded transfer period.

And, while Barca are still to make an official announcement, Bartomeu has revealed the deal for Messi has already been signed, while Iniesta’s Nou Camp future has also been secured.

“Messi? He has a four-year contract. He’s the best ever and played for us since he was small and we enjoy watching him play because he’s unique,” said Bartomeu after Barca’s 3-0 win over Juventus, where Messi’s scored two and created the other.

“Contracts for Messi and Iniesta? The club members can rest easy.

“We’ve already said Messi’s renewal is signed and that he’ll be at Barca for as long as he wants, the same with Iniesta.

“[Iniesta] has extraordinary quality. He was here when Ronaldinho was and now he’s with Messi. He’s crucial for us, he had a great game.

“Starting with three wins and conceding none is something that hadn’t happened for years.

“We’ve started with enthusiasm and excited the club members. It’s to Ernesto Valverde’s credit.”
