Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has revealed Kylian Mbappe was offered more money from another club but eventually decided on a switch to the capital.
The 18-year-old joined the Parisians on a one-year loan deal from Monaco with the option to make the move permanent for an eye-watering £166m next year.
And while that fee already appears a phenomenal one, Al-Khelaifi has revealed Mbappe was offered even more money elsewhere, prior to joining PSG.
“It was very competitive, trust me. Some other clubs offered him more than us. Every big club wanted him,” the PSG chief told the Daily Telegraph.
“But we explained our project and the ambition of the club and he's French, he's a Parisian, and he has the club in his heart.
“He wanted to stay in France and defend the French colours in the Champions League. It's deep inside him.
“He wants to write history here and he has history here already - you saw the picture of him [at his unveiling] when he was here 10 years ago?
“A picture does not lie. He loves the club and it's his dream to play for Paris Saint-Germain.”
