Cape Town City confirm Robyn Johannes as new captain following Lebogang Manyama exit

Cape Town City have confirmed defender Robyn Johannes is their new captain following the departure of Lebogang Manyama.

Manyama joined Konyaspor on transfer deadline day, and made his debut for the Turkish outfit off the bench in a 2-0 home loss to Alanyaspor on the weekend.

Cape Town-born Johannes recently skippered the Citizens in both legs of their MTN8 semi-final win over Bidvest Wits, with Manyama dropped for the first tie on the eve of his overseas move.

The ex-Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows and AmaZulu centre-back has shone this season, earning calls from coach Benni McCarthy for the 31-year-old to receive Bafana Bafana recognition.

Johannes will next lead the joint-log leaders into battle against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.
