SA players abroad wrap: Manyama and Zungu make debuts as Mahlambi waits on in Egypt

Lebogang Manyama got his first taste of European football and Bongani Zungu debutised for French club Amiens in what was a mixed bag of results for South Africans playing abroad on the weekend.
Cele made just his second appearance for Benfica B, coming off the bench for the last 10 minutes in a 3-0 win over Real. The three points left the Portuguese giants’ second team 10th in the Segunda Liga table.
Dolly’s Montpellier suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Nantes, with the South African speedster coming off the bench for the last 25 minutes of the encounter.
Keaghan Jacobs faced brother Kyle in the Scottish Championship, yet neither claimed bragging rights as Livingston and Queen of the South played out a 2-2 draw.
Jali came on at the start of the second half as Oostende recorded their first point of the season in a 1-1 away draw at Mechelen, with Knowledge Musona finding the back of the net. Oostende are still bottom of the log, with one point after six games played.
Al Ahly began the new Egyptian league campaign with a 1-1 draw against El Geish. New signing Mahlambi did not make the squad as is he still awaiting his registration as an international player for the Egyptian giants.
New signing Manyama came on for the last 22 minutes for Turkish club Konyaspor as they lost 2-0 at home to Alanyaspor. Konyaspor are 14th on the log with three points after four games.
Mayambela played the full 90 minutes in Degerfors’ 1-1 home draw to Oster, leaving them seventh after 23 games in the Swedish Superettan.
Mokotjo was an unused substitute as Brentford claimed a hard-fought point away at Aston Villa in a goalless draw at Villa Park for just their third point of the season. They sit second from bottom in the Championship, a point above Bolton.
Mothiba was taken off after 27 minutes with a knee injury as Valenciennes lost 3-0 to Nancy, leaving them 11th on the Ligue 2 table with eight points after six matches.
Nunes helped Polish club Pogon Szczecin keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw against table-toppers Lech Poznan.
Sekgota replaced compatriot Jaisen Clifford as Lithuanian club Stumbras beat Vilniaus Vytis via penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw to qualify for the Lithuanian Cup final for the first time in their history. They face Zalgiris in the final on September 24.
Serero started in Vitesse’s 3-0 away win at Excelsior, a big win which now leaves them second on the Eredivisie table, level on points with Ajax Amsterdam.
Singh played 88 minutes of Sporting Braga B’s 0-0 draw against Arouca. Braga still sit bottom of the log with three points after six games.
South African-born Untersee registered an assist in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Palermo in Italy’s Serie B. The draw leaves Empoli ninth on the log after three games played.
Veldwijk played the full game in Groningen’s 1-1 home draw with VVV, taken them to 10th in the Eredivisie standings.
New signing Zungu came on for the last 26 minutes as Amiens claimed a narrow 1-0 win away to Starsbourg, lifting the French club to 13th on the Ligue 1 table.
