SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler has applauded the professionalism of striker Jeremy Brockie after his man-of-the-match performance in the MTN8 semi-finals against Maritzburg United on Saturday.
Brockie hit a brace on his return to the starting line-up to lead the Nedbank Cup champions to a 3-1 win on aggregate and another cup final where they will meet Cape Town City.
Both of Brockie’s goals were scored with his head at Harry Gwala Stadium, taking his tally of goals for SuperSport to 51.
He's now just six goals behind SuperSport’s all-time top scorer, the late Abram Raselemane, who scored 57 goals before he left the club in 2006 to join Bidvest Wits.
The New Zealand-born forward recently handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, but SuperSport rejected it and dropped him for the first leg clash with Maritzburg.
However, Tinkler insists he never doubted Brockie's focus heading into the rematch with the Team of Choice.
"I put that to bed a long time ago and he [Brockie] also put it to bed. Like I have been saying to the press; he has been very, very good in training," Tinkler said after the game.
"He's been very professional, showed a lot of maturity and he understood that the opportunity to make a move will come. And we obviously know what his qualities are and he showed it again tonight [Saturday]."
