Xulu: Anything is possible

Maritzburg United’s marquee signing Siyanda Xulu says they cannot rely on the away goal they scored in the MTN8 semi-final first leg against SuperSport United before the international break.
Maritzburg are a game away from reaching their first knockout competition final, so they’ll have to bring their A-game to ensure they overcome a SuperSport side that wants to lift another trophy after their Nedbank Cup success in June.
The sides played to a 1-1 draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the first leg and they meet for the return leg at Harry Gwala Stadium (20h15).
Fadlu Davids' side, who are in this stage of competition for the first time in their history, have Lebogang Maboe to thank for the away goal he scored in Pretoria and he is one of the players expected to play a key role tonight.
Xulu will also be important at the back to try ensure Maritzburg keep a clean sheet.
"It will not make sense for us to be open at the back. We have to be cautious about it," Xulu said.
"Obviously if they score the game will become open from our side, and that is where we have to win the game. So we have to be clever and be cautious.
"We have no pressure and we’ve still made history ourselves by getting this far. It’ll be up to us to take that history to another level and bring the cup here in Martzburg."
The last time a team from KwaZulu-Natal was in a knockout competition final in the PSL was in 2010 with AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup. They lost to Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium just a month before the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Golden Arrows won the MTN8 at Orlando Stadium in 2009, beating Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the event decider.
Xulu draws a lot inspiration from AmaZulu and Arrows.
"That really gives us motivation and it shows that anything is possible. It shows that, by working hard, we can achieve anything," he said.
Xulu, who started in the first leg, is set to form a three-man backline with returning captain Denis Weidlich and Bevan Fransman.
Kenyan defender Brian Onyango is ruled out with a hamstring injury he suffered during the FIFA international break.
