Former Ajax Cape Town skipper Travis Graham is still in limbo at Ikamva, with management insisting the ball is still firmly in the player’s court.
The tough-tackling midfielder is into the final year of his contract with the Urban Warriors, opting not to extend his stay in the Cape in search of a move elsewhere.
Coach Stanley Menzo thus did not include the player in his pre-season plans, yet with the transfer window having come and gone and no move secured, the former South Africa Under-23 international remains in limbo.
“Travis needs to decide what he wants to do,” Ajax owner Ari Efstathiou tells KickOff.com. “At the moment, he’s still wanting to go to Europe, and is speaking to his agent, who hasn’t come up with anything. So to be honest, I’m not too sure.”
Despite having been ordered to train with the reserve team, Efstathiou says the player won’t feature in the club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge opener against Chippa United this weekend as his Ajax future is put on ice.
“At the moment Travis is not in the coach’s plans,” he says. “He probably won’t even play in the MDC team as we’ve got other youngsters coming through, so it looks like he’ll be sitting out for the year.”
Efstathiou reiterates that Ajax’s door has always been open for the player, who must decide whether to continue at the Cape club or not.
“We’ve offered him an extension, we’ve wanted to extend his contract,” he says. “We don’t have an issue, he chose not to. The choice is his, not ours.”
