KickOff.com can reveal that Phakamani Mahlambi has completed a deadline day move from Bidvest Wits to Egyptian side Al Ahly.
The Egyptian transfer window is only set to close on September 14, but their deadline for foreign transfers is midnight on September 7.
Mahlambi jetted out to Cairo late on Wednesday evening in order to complete his medical prior to finalising personal terms, after Wits accepted a $1.3-million (R16.7-million) bid from the Red Devils.
The 19-year-old winger has since penned a four-year deal with the reigning Egyptian Premier League champions, and becomes the first South African to ply his trade in Egypt.
The move comes shortly after Pharaohs striker Amr Gamal joined Wits on a one-year loan from Al Ahly, becoming the first Egyptian to play in the PSL.
The door to Europe is now closer for the Amajita star, as Al Ahly have recently exported the likes of Ahmed Hegazy and Ramadan Sobhi to Premier League sides West Brom and Stoke City respectively.
The new Egyptian Premier League campaign kicks off this weekend, with Al Ahly hosting El Geish at the Cairo Military Academy Stadium on Sunday evening (20h15).
