Cape Town City defender Robyn Johannes looks set to take the captain’s armband after Lebogang Manyama signed for Turkish side Konyaspor, subject to a medical.
Johannes led City to a 1-0 victory over Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 semi-final first leg match at Cape Town Stadium on August 28 in the absence of dropped attacker Manyama.
After the match Johannes received praise from coach Benni McCarthy on social network Twitter.
“What a brilliant performance from my captain today Robinho Johannes. Well done bro, very proud of you,” McCarthy said.
Johannes, who did not quite live up to his potential during his days at Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, has enjoyed his game since joining the Citizens and keeps growing in confidence. He is vocal at the back and can use his experience to guide players such as Taariq Fielies and Thabo Nodada on the pitch.
KickOff.com has been informed that right-back Vincent Kobola is likely to be named vice-captain, with an official announcement expected soon.
