According to Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane, Mashaba sustained an Achilles tendon injury while training with the MultiChoice Diski Challenge side during pre-season.

“Mzi Mashaba is here. He was training with our MDC team, but he is injured now. He came for pre-season and then he got injured. He did his Achilles,” Mosimane says.

Recently Timeslive reported that Mashaba had been suspended for substituting himself in an Absa Premiership game against Baroka last season on May 10, but Mosimane did not want to talk about the matter. Mashaba has not played since then.

“No, he’s injured. Ricardo [Nascimento] is out for long. It’s injuries.”
