Mamelodi Sundowns striker Keletso Makgalwa says he is excited that he'll get to play with his role model Khama Billiat in the first team this season.
Makgalwa has been promoted by coach Pitso Mosimane, along with defender Thendo Mukumela, and wants to use the opportunity to learn as much as he can.
The junior international player has trained with the senior side before while in the club's development structures, but he now has a first-team contract and is excited. He will wear the jersey number 35 and Mukumela will wear number 34.
"I am happy to be in the first team. I want to thank the team and coach Pitso for giving me the opportunity. I am looking forward to grabbing it with both hands. I need to work hard," the 20-year-old from Mokopane in Limpopo tells KickOff.com.
"For me it's really motivating to train and play with the best players like Khama, Percy [Tau] and others. Khama is my role model. I think we play more or less the same type of football. So I am happy that I can play with him."
Makgalwa, who was at the Under-20 Fifa World Cup in South Korea in May, is motivated to see how Sundowns development products Percy Tau and Motjeka Madisha have established themselves as regulars in the senior side's starting line-up. He believes he can one day become a regular too.
"Seeing guys like Percy and Motjeka going out on loan and then coming back to win the CAF Champions League is really motivating. They were in the MDC [MultiChoice Diski Challenge] team and now they are in the first team," he says.
"For me it's all about learning in my first season and working hard. Maybe I will play regularly next season."
Makgalwa scored eight goals in the MDC and could be useful to coach Mosimane this season, especially with the many games Sundowns are set to play
"I am a goal scorer. I like to score," says Makgalwa.
The youngster joined Sundowns in 2014 and is seen as one for the future at the club.
