Ajax Cape Town playmaker Toriq Losper has revealed he is well on the road to recovery, but only expects to be back in action at the end of September.
Losper last featured for the Urban Warriors in their pre-season campaign, where he managed just 30 minutes against Bidvest Wits before limping off injured.
'Tokkie', as Losper is affectionately known, was training on his own at Ikamva on Tuesday while his coach Stanley Menzo was putting his players through their paces with wide play and finishing.
Ajax are still in search of their first victory of the season after playing out to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows in their opening Absa Premiership encounter before losing 2-0 to Maritzburg United last time out.
The Mother City outfit restart their league campaign with an away game against Orlando Pirates on September 12 and Losper admits it’s unlikely that he’ll be back for the encounter, while also ruling himself out of the tie against Polokwane City a week later.
“I doubt that I’ll be available for the match against Polokwane [September 19th] as well,” Losper tells KickOff.com.
"I think I’ll first have to get my match sharpness back by playing MDC games first as I don’t want to rush things despite the fact that I’m already feeling fine and strong. Perhaps I’ll be back and ready against Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Losper also downplayed Ajax’s slow start to the season, citing over-eagerness as an aspect for their shortcomings on the field, despite a reasonably decent pre-season.
“The coaches are obviously trying to get the best combinations with back-up players in these positions,” Losper further states.
“Every player want to impress and secure their place in the starting XI. I’m confident things will fall into place. We must just remain focused and stick to the basics,” Losper concludes.
