Ajax Cape Town defender Rheece Evans returns to training following lengthy injury

Posted: 28 August 2017 Time: 18:30

Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo has confirmed that defender Rheece Evans has started training with the club after a long lay-off with an abductor strain.

The former Maritzburg United man joined the Urban Warriors from Mamelodi Sundowns in December last year on an 18-month loan deal, ending two-and-a-half seasons of frustration at Masandawana.

The Durban-born player, who turns 27 today, suffered an abductor tear against Free State Stars in March.

When the club started pre-season training on June 4, they confirmed that Evans had surgery and was busy with rehabilitation.

"He has started training with the team on Friday and hopefully he's coming back with the squad. There's a little more physical fitness he needs to work on. Unfortunately he has been injured for a very long time," Menzo said.

After the international break Menzo's charges, who started this season with a draw against Golden Arrows and a loss to Maritzburg, will face Orlando Pirates on September 12 at Orlando Stadium.
