Cape Town City goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters believes every player in the squad knows exactly what is expected of them, and feels their 100% start to the season shows just that.
The Citizens are currently joint-top leaders in the Absa Premiership after two wins from two while they followed up their MTN8 quarter-final victory over Platinum Stars with a semi-final first-leg win against defending champions Bidvest Wits on Sunday.
And while City coach Benni McCarthy has tried numerous defensive lineups during those games, Walters, man of the match at the weekend, insists the team are well aware of what their jobs entail come match day.
“I knew they [Wits] were going to come, their threat is going out wide and putting in crosses, and obviously finishing - we worked quite a bit on it in the last couple of days but you know when you play against Wits you’re going to have your work cut out for you,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.
“It’s not over. They can easily beat us 3-0 when we play them at home but I’m happy with the performance, I’m happy with the guys, I’m happy for the victory but like we know, in the MTN8, this is only the halfway now.”
When asked whether the numerous changes to Cape Town City’s defensive lineup from game to game are in any way negatively affecting him, Walters said: “No, it’s not. Basically, whoever plays knows their job.
“Whoever it is [that plays in defence] they know what their job is and they know exactly what they need to do.
“We are showing we are a bit of a team this season.”
