The South African Football Association have confirmed Bafana Bafana will be without Rivaldo Coetzee for their 2018 World Cup qualifying double header against Cape Verde.
The Ajax Cape Town defender, who saw his proposed move to Glasgow Celtic ended after failing a medical at the Scottish giants, is set to miss the two encounters with injury.
Meanwhile, head coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that Bafana’s European-based players are set to meet up with the national team upon their arrival in Cape Verde for Friday’s encounter, instead of first flying to South Africa and then to the island nation.
“Having discussed it with [Bafana] manager Barney Kujane, we found that it made a lot of sense to ask European-based players to fly straight to Cape Verde instead of coming here and then embark on another long journey to the Island,” the coach said on the official Safa website.
Those European-based players who are still to report for duty include Keagan Dolly (Montpellier, France), Andile Jali (KV Oostende FC, Belgium), Kamohelo Mokotjo (Brentford, England), Bongani Zungu (Vitoria Guimares, Portugal), Thulani Serero (SBV Vitesse, Holland), Tokelo Rantie (Genclerbirligi, Turkey) and Kermit Erasmus (Rennes, France).
South Africa face Cape Verde on 1 September [kick-off 20h30 SA time] before playing the return fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium four days later at 19h00.
