Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids rules out immediate sale of striker Evans Rusike

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is confident Evans Rusike will not be leaving the club in the current transfer window, and also seeks to bring in “one or two” more players.

Rusike has already tallied three goals this season, with one in their opening MTN8 quarter-final win over Mamelodi Sundowns and a brace against Ajax Cape Town.

The Team of Choice fought their way back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw in their Wafa Wafa semi-final first-leg against SuperSport United on Saturday, with the Zimbabwean once again proving a livewire in attack.

With Kaizer Chiefs known to be keen admirers of Rusike, Davids says the player understands that a move away from the Pietermaritzburg-based club will not materialise, and insists the player is happy to remain with the team this term.

“He [Rusike] knows he’s going nowhere,” stated Davids when quizzed about the 27-year-old's situation ahead of the close of the transfer window on Thursday.

"We had a chat with him and he knows. He’s happy, he signed a new contract now so there is absolutely no chance that before the window anybody of our team or squad – definitely not even Rusike – will move.”

With a squad boasting an average age of 23, the 36-year-old tactician is still keen on adding to his options before the transfer deadline.

“I think we will definitely bring in one or two who we’ve identified already. We’re finalising in terms of the youth that we’re bringing through and, yes, one or two signings – definitely, before the window closes,” he said.
